EVERY KINDERGARTEN STUDENT RECEIVES A BOOK DURING AUTHOR VISIT
The Liberty Education Foundation recently brought a joyful literary experience to every kindergarten classroom across the district with a virtual author visit from Tim McCanna—celebrated children’s author, illustrator, and proud 1990 graduate of Liberty Public Schools.
Throughout the week, all 11 elementary schools participated in live Zoom sessions with McCanna, who brought his characters Peach and Plum to life through animated readings, songs and drawing together. In a special surprise during Manor Hill Elementary’s call, McCanna’s mother and longtime Liberty resident, Sue Ann Wright, joined the classroom!
To make the experience even more meaningful, the Liberty Education Foundation gifted a copy of Peach and Plum: Here We Come! to each of the district’s 700 kindergarten students.
“Experiences like this show our students that authors are real people—and in this case, someone who once sat in the very same classrooms they’re in now,” said Tanna Campbell, Executive Director of the Liberty Education Foundation. “We are thrilled to be able to combine an inspiring author visit with the joy of owning a brand-new book.”
The Foundation is working to make this an annual tradition, ensuring each new class of kindergartners receives their very own book and a meaningful connection to literacy. Community members can help make that possible by becoming monthly donors.
